Route description

The location is among the most sought after by athletes from all over the world. We are inside the Etna Park. From the departure station of the Etna cable car you will proceed uphill along the “CAI Path 702 Track to the Summit Craters”.
Through the first stretch, about 2 km long with a mixed surface of stone and sand, you reach the arrival station of the cable car (altitude 2,500m above sea level). Along this climb you can admire a breathtaking panorama overlooking the Gulf of Catania and beyond.

The route will continue on a sandy surface for another 2.5km along the Montagnola and the Escrivà Crater. In this second stretch the landscape is typically “lunar” as there is no trace of life except sand, ash and lava. After passing the “Devil’s Climb”, with an average gradient of 35%, you will reach the finish line with a view of the South East Crater and the Central Crater.

The return is scheduled using the off-road vehicles of the Etna cable car.
