The 9km mountain race takes place within the Etna Park in the municipal area of Nicolosi.

The route is a circular route, with departure and arrival at the La Ginestra refuge in Monte Concilio.

The first stretch winds along the “CAI Path 754 Monte Concilio Monte Gemmellaro”, on a dirt road, crosses the 2001 lava flow and is quite fast with alternating climbs and descents.

After skirting a needle-like forest, a single-track begins on a lava flow between rolling stones and volcanic sand, downhill, up to the minimum altitude of the route after 2.30km from the start.

From this point onwards, a 3km uphill section begins, on single-track, which will lead the athletes up to the summit ring of Monte Gemmellaro (1,542m above sea level).

Once the maximum altitude has been exceeded, the last stretch will begin, on a fairly fast dirt road, passing near the volcanic vents of the 1886 eruption.

Continuing downhill, you cross the wooded area of Monte Grosso and after some ups and downs you reach the finish line.
